ANSI Museum

The Central Museum is located at Kolkata. There are Zonal Anthropological Museums at six regional and one sub-regional centres. Each museum has specimens on crafts, musical instruments, economic artefacts, dress and ornaments, objects related to religious activities from tribes and folk. The museums give emphasis on depiction of bio-cultural heritage of people of the concerned zones. The museums disseminate knowledge through permanent galleries and by organizing thematic exhibitions, film shows, both in urban and rural areas of the country. All specimens displayed in the museums are collected through field research, so the cultural matrix of each specimen is properly documented. Each displayed specimen is labelled in Hindi, English and wherever possible the regional language of the zone.
