BIO-CULTURAL DIVERSITY, ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT A team of research personnel completed a six week study of Kunkeri village, Sindhudurgdistrict, Maharashtra. A team of researcherscompleted a six week study ofJamgod Village, Dewas, Madhya Pradesh.

Man & Environment–Agasthymalai Biosphere Reserve Study:

Data analysis and report writing are in progress on Peppara and Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuaries and Agasthyamalai Biological Park range in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. Community Genetics and Health (Human Genetics Extensionprogramme): Scheme – Human Genetics Extention Programme – Sickle Cell Anaemia and Thalassemia in Central India, Nagpur City, Maharashtra.

PCR Standardization (removal of Primer dimers) is being done. PEG purification of PCR has been taken-up. Overhauling of sequencing and PCR machines have been done

Museum

The Anthropological Survey of India, Central Regional Centre, Nagpur organized International Museum Day on 18th May, 2013 with the collaboration of Raman Science Centre, Nagpur. A drawing competition on the theme ‘Tribal Art and Culture’ & ‘Traditional Rural Science’ and an Open House Quiz contest was held for the students of classes 1st to 10th. Following the event,a popular science lecture was delivered by Dr. Khwaja, Director, Epigraphy, Archaeological Survey of India, Nagpur.In the drawing competition three categories was made for Class I to IV – Category ‘A’; Class V to VII – Category ‘B’ and Class VIII to X – Category ‘C’. All three categories were rewarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes and five consolation prizes along with a certificate.After the drawing competition all the attended students from Class I to X were provided with refreshments. The event received a very good response from the general public as well. Press and photographers from different Newspapers in the city covered the programme and published in their respective news papers next day.The programme was chaired by Mr. Vishwanath Joshi, Project Coordinator, Raman Science Centre, Nagpur with Mr. K. Ravi, Superintending Anthropologist (Cultural) & Head of Office, Anthropological Survey of India, Central Regional Centre, Nagpur and Dr. Khwaja, Directer, Archaeological Survey of India, Nagpur sharing the dais. On the demands of students and parents, drawing & photographs as a special gallerywill be displayed in the Zonal Anthropological Museum on 5th June, 2013 for one week. Around 1100Visitors visited the Zonal Anthropological Museum including school and college students, general visitors, VIPS and Govt. officials. Exhibit of the week ‘Bhima-Bhimin(Brass)’wasdisplayed in the gallery for the visitors.Documentation and Digitization of museum specimens are in progress. Film shows were arranged during the visits of school and college students and for other visitors.

Anti-Terrorism Day

This regional centre observed Anti-Terrorism Day on 21st May, 2013 and all the staff took oath. Seminar/Workshop/Meeting etc. Two researchers from theRegional Centre have attended the Orientation Course in Biological Anthropology Aspects of the ‘Village Study’ held in the ERC, Kolkata from 16th to 22nd May, 2013. Three staff members have attended a three day Workshop-cum-Training Programme on ‘Budget Control and its Universal Process for Proper Execution of Maintenance and Bill Processing’ heldbetween 9th -11th May, 2013 at the Head Office, Kolkata. INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY – 2013 ZONAL ANTHROPOLOGICAL MUSEUM, ANTHROPOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA, CENTRAL REGIONAL CENTRE Zonal Anthropological Museum of Anthropological Survey of India, Central Regional Centre, Nagpur has observed International Museum Day on 18th May, 2013 with the collaboration of Raman Science Centre, Nagpur. On the day of celebration the ZAM organized a drawing competition for students of Classes 1st to 10th. The theme of the drawing competition was ‘Tribal Art and culture’ & ‘Traditional rural science’. After that Open House Quiz contest was held for the students. Following the event, one popular science lecture was delivered by Dr. Khwaja, Director, Epigraphy, Archaeological Survey of India, Nagpur. In the drawing competition three categories was made Class I to IV – Category ‘A’; Class V to VII – Category ‘B’ and Class VIII to X – Category ‘C’. The International Museum Day observed by the ZAM, CRC received wide spread response from the public and the media. After the competition, the winners and participants were given awards, consolation prizes, gifts and a certificate. All participants were also provided with refreshments. Ravi, Superintending Anthropologist (Culture) & Head of Office, Anthropological Survey of India, Central Regional Centre, Nagpur and Dr. Khwaja, Director, Archaeological Survey of India, Nagpur. On the demand of students and parents the ZAM has displayed all drawings & photographs in special galleries of the Zonal Anthropological Museum on 5th June, 2013, for a week.
