Training Programme-cum-Workshop on “Traditional Dance and Songs of the Sabar Tribe” is being carried out among the Sabar Tribe of Sarasbedia Village, Khatra, Bankura, West Bengal. Training Programme-Cum-Workshop on “Traditional Wall Painting and Relief Works on Wall on the eve of Sohrai (Badhna) festival among the Santal” carried out among the Santals of Ramnagar Village, Birbhum, West Bengal
A Brief Resume of Singnificant Activities, May 2013 – Eastern Regional Center
Almost all the researchers are involved in the project ‘Bio-Cultural Diversity, Environment and Sustainable Development (Village Study)’ are involved in tabulation work and report writing. All researchers attended the ‘Orientation Course for the newly joined Research Associates of Physical Anthropology’, held at Salt Lake campus, Kolkata from 16 22 May, 2013.
The Head of Office, Eastern Regional Centre, Kolkata, delivered lectures in the orientation course, on two topics- (i) Village studies: Some related issues, (ii) Field work tradition of Anthropological Survey of India. A researcher completed field work at Kunkeri village of Sindudurgh district in Maharashtra along with other team members from the CRC, Nagpur. Two researchers attended National Seminar on ‘Life, Livelihood Strategies and Technology among the Hunter- Gatherers’ organized by An.S.I., A & N Regional Centre, Port Blair and presented their papers.
One researcher attended meetings at Indian Museum in connection with Bi-centenary celebration of Indian Museum. Three researchers visited Rajarhat for collection of some additional data on the Rajarhat Project.
World Environment Day Celebrated at RFS, Ranchi.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, a special lecture was organized on 5th June, 2013 in the office of the Anthropological Survey of India, Ranchi Field Station, Ranchi.Prof Karma Oraon, Head, Department of Anthropology, Ranchi University, Ranchi was the chief guest. In his brief but indepthdeliberation on the topic “Tribes and Environment”, Prof. Karma Oraon referred various instances of prevailing environmental situation across the country & abroad. He emphasized that the protection and conservation of environment is the need of the hour for the well being of mankind in general. He was of opinion that conservation and protection of environment is possible only through people’s participation and their active involvement. The programme was presided over by Dr SamitGhosal, SA(C) & Officer-in-charge, Ranchi, Field Station and vote of thanks was given by Dr S. S. Mishra, A.A.( C ). All members of RFS, Ranchi including Sri B.Oraon, Sri S. Oraon, and Sri D Baraikhave participated in the function.
