International Day of the World’s Indigenous People, 2015 at SRC\r\n

\r\n\r\nA Brief Resume of Singnificant Activities, June 2013 – Southern Regional Center\r\n\r\nZonal Anthropological Museum\r\nAnthropological Survey of India, Southern Regional Centre\r\n\r\nINTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY\r\nA Report\r\n\r\nZonal Anthropological Museum (ZAM) of the Anthropological Survey of India, Southern Regional Centre, Mysore observed the International Museum Day with a week long programme from 18th May- 24th May, 2013. As part of the celebration, ZAM has observed the day with the tribal people of Kodagu on 19th May, 2013 at Madikeri, of Kodagu district, Karnataka. This function was inaugurated by Prof P. K. Misra, retired Professor of Anthropology, NEHU, Shillong, in the presence of Chief Guest Shri Lakshman J Gandi, Project Co-Ordinator, ITDP, Madikeri, and Dr. C. R. Sathyanarayanan, Deputy Director, Anthropological Survey of India, Southern Regional Centre, Mysore presided over the function. In the programme, the three tribal groups such as the Malaikudi, Jenu Kuruba, and Yerava presented their craft demonstration and performed cultural programme. Local media highlighted the programme in various News papers. About 80 tribal people participated this programme.\r\n\r\nIn this occasion a total of 400 students of various schools, colleges visited the Zonal Anthropological Museum on 18th to 24th May, 2013. Save and except, the local people living around the Zonal Museum visited the museum. Documentary films produced by our Survey were also screened in this occasion to aware the visitors the role of museum for the development of society.\r\nThe Southern Regional Centre of the Anthropological Survey of India has observed the “World Environment Day” on 05th June, 2013.About 150 school children from PragatiVidya Kendra and Amrita Vidyalayam have attended the Programme. A special lecture by Dr. D.R. Ramesh Singh, IFS (Retd.), Principal Chief Conservator of Forests’Protection of Environment’ was delivered in the forenoon, followed by a film show of Life on Earth. A 2009 documentary by YannArthus-Bertrand titled Home was screened for the children to understand the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is being threatened the ecological balance of the planet. The film is almost entirely composed of aerial shots of various places on Earth. Speaking on this occasion, Dr. D.R. Ramesh Singh narrated how the population explosion and the so called ‘modern ways of living’ have become a major threat for earth’s resources and survival of all living organisms. He appealed to the children to appreciate nature, protect environment and learn sustainable ways of living. Dr. C.R. Sathyanarayanan, Deputy Director of the Centre, in his welcome address, mentioned that the UNEP slogan of “THINK, EAT& SAVE” identified as this year’s theme has focused on reducing wastage of food. He further added that compared to the rural and tribal societies who are essentially food producers, the consumerist urban society wastes a lot of food and accumulates huge amount of garbage.\r\n\r\nOBERVED THE AUTISM AWARENESS DAY, 02.04.2013\r\n\r\n \r\n
